Face Miner Takes on Big Golf Race for Prostate Cancer UK

Sean Broadley, a Face Miner at ICL Boulby in East Cleveland, is taking on a challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK after several fellow golfers were diagnosed with the disease.

Setting a goal to raise £1000 for the charity through a 100-hole golf ultra marathon at the Whitby Golf Club, which is scheduled for June 23, 2023, Sean is expecting the event to take between 12-15 hours to complete it.

The funds raised by Sean and other supporters of Prostate Cancer UK will help improve early diagnosis, develop better treatments, and ultimately save lives. Sean’s efforts to raise awareness and funding for Prostate Cancer UK are commendable, and he is helping to make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by this disease.

Sean says: “I’m driven to do this to raise more awareness as it has already helped workers at Boulby”.

Taking an innovative approach to the wellbeing of it’s employees

Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with 1 in 8 men being diagnosed with it in their lifetime. With this in mind, and many men whom work at the mine affected, ICL Boulby now provides free Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) testing to employees in a bid to catch the disease early.

Richard Severn, Head of Operations for Mining and Infrastructure at Boulby says: “It is heartening to see individuals like Sean stepping up to make a difference in their communities. By raising awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK, he is helping to support men who are affected by this disease and bringing us one step closer to a cure.”
