Boulby Welcomes First and Second-Year Apprentices: A Week of Learning and Adventure

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming back our 2024 sponsored second-year apprentices to site.

These apprentices will now start their 3rd year practical placements with Boulby and Teesdock. We further took the opportunity for some team building by introducing our newest sponsored 2nd year students for 2025 to the wonders of ICL Boulby Mine. These bright minds are diving into fields such as engineering, mechanical, and welding/ fabrication, and we couldn’t be prouder of their progress.

What made this week truly special was the blend of hands-on learning and thrilling team-building activities. At the site, apprentices got an in-depth look at our daily operations, from mining to production, and even took a trip to Teesdock. They saw first-hand how the small-scale pumps they study in college compare to the massive industrial machines we use here – all while exploring over a kilometre underground!

But it wasn’t all work and no play. Our apprentices headed to an outward-bound site where they built catapults, climbed rocks, and engaged in various group activities that strengthened their teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Leaving with smiles and a wealth of new knowledge, our apprentices are more excited than ever about their future at ICL Boulby. This week not only fuelled their enthusiasm but also provided invaluable insights into the careers that lie ahead.

Here’s to our apprentices – the future of ICL Boulby looks bright with you on board!
