Students Ready to Dig Deep into Their Apprenticeships at Boulby Mine

Excitement is in the air as ten students from TTE, a division of the Middlesbrough College Group, prepare to embark on their apprenticeships at Boulby and Teesdock.

These students will be focusing on STEM subjects, specifically Fabrication, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering. Four third-year students have already started their apprenticeships last week, while the six second-year students, who are sponsored for a year in college by the world’s first and only producer of the organic, low carbon fertiliser, Polysulphate, began yesterday at TTE.

Last week, the group of students arrived at the mine for a broad and intensive introductory program that included spending time with various departments across both sites, Boulby & Teesdock, including Agronomy, Geology, and Dark Matter. But the real adventure began when they descended 1200m underground to experience the inner workings of the mine first-hand.

The experience was a unique opportunity for the students to gain basic knowledge of the mine’s operations from ‘pick point to dock’. With their inquisitive minds and hands-on approach, there is no doubt that these students will be making a valuable contribution to the team at Boulby and Teesdock.

The future looks bright for these young apprentices as they prepare to dig deep into their roles and push the boundaries of what is possible in their STEM disciplines.

Congratulations to the ten TTE students who are ready to make their mark within the business!
