Celebrations after successful Magoo Memorial Golf Day

“Oh Magoo – you’ve done it again.”

The catchphrase of the popular cartoon character back in the fifties and sixties came to the fore again recently as this year’s charity golf tournament – the Magoo Memorial Day – raised more than £1,600 for Cancer Research.

The day was named after Peter Hartas, a founder member of Hunley Hotel and Golf Club at Brotton near Saltburn where the annual fundraiser is staged. It is organised every year by Craig Hartas, one of our Materials Operators, in honour of his father who was given that nickname by one of his golfing partners as he could never see where the ball finished and he had a likeness to him.

The latest event was blessed with good weather enabling 188 adults and 18 juniors to play in sunny conditions. Organiser Craig was delighted with the day:

“Unfortunately, there wasn’t a hole in one this year but a great day was had by all. Let’s just say there was a few sore heads on the Sunday morning! We raised a fantastic sum for charity which we couldn’t have done without the help of ICL and other local businesses with their kind donations of prizes and sponsorship.”

The winning men’s team this year was Multiple Fores;

The winning ladies’ team was Pure as the Driven, otherwise known as Erin Worton, Paula Thompson, Amber Westwood & Victoria Rigg. Congratulations – but Craig can’t find your photo!

And let’s also acknowledge the efforts of the youngsters who got involved. The three junior prize section winners were; Blue tees; Daniel Hornsby. Red tees; Owen Walker. Yellow tees; Harrison Metcalfe.
